Those who involve themselves with the graphic art of an artist of the stature of Chagall are required to investigate, to document, to compare, to track down unknown sources, to establish new connections. All the more since graphic art is, by its nature, rarely unique, we do painstaking research to determine the authenticity of a work of art and of signatures, as well as examining whether the paper used, editions and dates are in order. Fortunately, a lot of facts can be established concerning Chagall's graphic art. This is only too necessary, considering that falsifications, illegal prints and other counterfeit products inundate the market. It is a distressing realisation that there is more of this stuff for sale than there are authentic graphic works issued by Chagall. In the course of the years, Wuyt has built up a complete documentation centre containing sources for comparison and standard works, as well as providing any guarantees needed when we issue a Certificate of Authenticity.
