Most of the original graphic art by Chagall still in circulation has suffered from the effects of daylight through the years, given the relatively recent introduction of conservation glass. There
may be other causes of damage too, such as the use of acidic mounts. The resultant second-hand art is sometimes marketed after having been restored. Although we are aware that perfectly preserved
graphic art becomes scarcer with the years, we do not recommend the purchase of restored works of art. The damage can never be fully undone, and the original freshness of the colors is never
retrieved. We can examine the state of a work of art in our studio at sixty euros per examined work. You can be present and follow the process step-by-step. For a written report of our findings
we charge twenty euros; we will send you the report by mail/post.
